The Blue Line stops at UIC-Halsted and Racine, and the Green and Pink lines stop at Morgan, all within a comfortable walk. CTA bus routes 8 and 20 serve the surrounding blocks and connect to the Loop. Street parking exists but is competitive in the evenings. Entry is free \u2014 there is no admission for the plaza, the playground, the mound or the dog areas \u2014 and the park keeps standard Chicago Park District hours from early morning until late evening. Autumn is the calmest and most comfortable season, with skyline views from the mound sharpening as the air clears and the dog areas at their busiest in the cooler evenings. She was appointed public guardian of Cook County in 1897, worked from 1913 as an assistant to the judge of the juvenile court, and in 1923 was elected to the Circuit Court of Cook County, presiding over the girls&#8217; branch of the juvenile court. Her lasting contribution was practical: she founded a series of residential homes, known as the Mary Clubs, so that girls who came before the court had somewhere to live other than an institution or the street. She retired from the bench in 1933. The park that carries her name was built on a former industrial and institutional site in a neighborhood that has flipped from meatpacking and warehouses to restaurants and residential towers within a generation. It was designed by Site Design Group in collaboration with the Chicago Park District and the West Loop Community Organization and opened in 2010. Architectural elements salvaged from the building previously on the site were incorporated into the new construction, and the paving was specified as permeable photocatalytic units \u2014 the same product family marketed as smog-eating concrete \u2014 so the plaza handles stormwater and works on air quality at the same time.
